Chasquis Records, a new Latin-focused shop in Cedar Hill, to open with Adrian Quesada DJ set
December 17, 2025 by Preston Jones
Roughly 20 minutes south of downtown Dallas, an entire world awaits adventurous North Texas listeners.
It’s in Cedar Hill, located within the walls of the 400 square foot, 1950s-vintage tiny house known as Chasquis Records where a variety of vinyl, from across multiple genres but particularly focused on Latin American alternative and roots music, will be available for perusal and purchase, beginning Dec. 20.
The small, intentionally focused store doubles as a headquarters for the Chasquis (pronounced Chas-kees) Group, spearheaded by owner and talent buyer Victor Rimach Vera, whose Peruvian roots are reflected in the very name Chasquis, itself a word in the Peruvian language Quechua, which translates to “messenger.”
“I started Chasquis right after the pandemic, and I’ve been doing a lot of work with touring bands around Texas,” Vera said during a recent conversation. “It’s been a pretty exciting five years, and it was time to actually open a brick-and-mortar location for the company. … We want to be able to create this safe space for music heads like myself to find new music on record, but from artists that are actually touring Texas right now.”
To christen the new space, Vera is hosting Grammy winner, Black Pumas co-founder and acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist Adrian Quesada for a vinyl DJ set on Dec. 20, with complimentary Peruvian food and drink available for guests.
“It will be very intimate, no more than 40 people,” Vera said. “They’ll have that experience with not only the dynamics of spinning records but also listening to the records on vintage speakers. I was able to acquire a couple of Klipsch industrial speakers from the ‘70s. … Whenever we have these curators [or] selectors DJ-ing at the store — they’ll use that sound system as well.”
Chasquis Records likely won’t spin up a full slate of events until March, but Vera said those interested in keeping abreast of upcoming guest DJs or other in-store happenings should follow the store on Instagram.
“This is a whole playground for people that are into listening to new music,” Vera said. “There’s so much noise out there in terms of music that people, when they want to find something new, they don’t know where to start. What’s better than to actually go physically to a place, and be like ‘What do you recommend?’ Maybe meeting people with the same tastes in music, or with the same idea of what music should be — that’s a great thing.”
Chasquis Records soft opening with Adrian Quesada vinyl DJ set, Cedar Hill. 7 p.m. Dec. 20. Tickets are $36.
