Cedar Hill insider: A Slice of Success in Downtown
The restaurant business is a tough one, especially for locally-owned spots. A study I read recently said that 85% of new restaurants close within their first year; 80% don’t survive past five years. We’ve certainly seen our fair share, with the recent closures of Applebee’s, On The Border and Hooters, along with the heartbreaking announcement that Mija BBQ will shut its doors later this month.
Those challenges make it even more satisfying when you can share the story of someone who has made it work over a sustained period of time, like Sam’s Pizza. Sam’s has become a regional draw that brings in people from all over the Metroplex. The pizza and pasta joint located in Downtown Cedar Hill has a 4.5 Yelp rating with nearly 700 reviews, which is pretty rare in the restaurant business. We’re proud they’re one of ours.
To help spread the word about places like this, we recently began a new video series called Heart of the Hill; the first episode takes a look at how Sam’s got started, how they wound up in Cedar Hill and what happens if you forget to pay. Click here to watch for yourself:
