New interim park to debut in historic downtown Cedar Hill

DALLAS (KDAF) — The City of Cedar Hill will host a community celebration on Saturday, Aug. 22, to mark the temporary opening of an interim park at the Phillips Property. The 2.68-acre site is located at 104 S. Broad Street in Historic Downtown Cedar Hill.
Owned by the Cedar Hill Economic Development Corporation, the property is being used as a temporary gathering space while officials seek a development partner for a permanent project. The activation follows the Heart of the Hill Downtown Action Plan, which was adopted in early 2026 after input from residents, local businesses and community stakeholders.
The free, family-friendly celebration will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and feature food trucks, coffee, mimosas, a community toast and live music performed by Maya Piata and Band. The Cedar Hill Farmers Market, usually held at another location in Historic Downtown, will move to the Phillips Property for the morning and remain open until 1 p.m.
The interim park setup includes new shade structures, outdoor seating, a colorful interactive asphalt mural and a public art installation containing more than 450 feet of banners. City leaders designed the temporary activation to show how the location can support markets, pop-up events and public gatherings.
Henry Florsheim serves as the director of economic development for Cedar Hill. He said the temporary activation provides immediate use while the city works toward long-term goals for the site.
“This is an opportunity to show both the community and potential developers what this site can contribute to the future of Downtown Cedar Hill,” Florsheim said. “We are creating energy and value at the site today while continuing to pursue the right partner and a permanent development that reflects the community’s vision for downtown.”
